Tong-Il (Korean Unification) Praxis Towards Solidarity, Hospitality and Liberation in Religion
Eunjoo Kim
Paper Presentation in a Themed Session
In the post-colonial time, TongIl is one of the most significant tasks and is heavily discussed as a part of communal practice in the Korean churches. TongIl is the final eschatological-ecclesial goal which constitutes the harmony of communities, helping Korean people participate in the reign of God. In contrast to the theoretical and ideological discourse mentioned above, the goal of unification, whilst widely recognized in Korean theology, poses a practical problem; namely the logistics around how to achieve this eschatological goal for all. According to my own pastoral experiences of North Korean refugees and their faith formation programs, the treatment of North Koreans in the South is largely ignored. Individuals born in NK who have since settled in South Korea as refugees from the 1980s have, for the most part, faced difficulties integrating into the South Korean society. Although North Korean refugees are a symbol signaling the much anticipated arrival of TongIl, there are various reasons the marginalization occurs even today. Using Refugees' narratives, I contend that educational examination in religious communities must attend to the marginalized experiences that inhibit the cultural and political integration of North Korean refugee women in South Korea. I demonstrate that in order for the Korean TongIl effort to be effective, development of an interdependent and harmonious TongIl pedagogy combining critical Christian religious principles and postcolonial feminist liberation philosophy can expose the limitations within the established concept of TongIl as a theological discourse centered around the absorption of North Korea by South Korea.
Commemoration of Ashura
Maritza Eridania Espejel Pineda
Paper Presentation in a Themed Session
In the year 680, Imam Hussein and his followers were massacred by the army of Yazid I, in the context of their confrontation for the leadership of the Umma (Islamic Community). Derived from this event, known as the Battle of Kerbala, emerged one of the most important traditions to the Shiism Community, the Ashura. Because of its relevance, for being the historical moment that confirmed the division of Islam into two large currents, the objective of this study is to review a set of characteristics of Ashura (including the history of its emergence); how it is experienced in the context of the Islamic Republic of Iran; and the political and identity implications that accompany this religious holiday. This research is based on the importance of a tradition that is still in force today and seeks to contribute to the field of studies of religious traditions and its links with politics. For this paper it has been necessary to have a documental revision related to the subject and an interpretation of this material. Finally, and preliminary, it is possible to say that the commemoration of this event is one of the best signs of identity among the Shiites in Iran and, also, the best representation of a government considered by itself as the protector of the Umma.

The Expanding Category of Religion and Spirituality
Therasa Topete
Paper Presentation in a Themed Session
Notions of religion and spirituality are shifting in the ever-expanding secular, pluralistic, and global world. Some worldviews fail to conform to familiar definitions of religion and are therefore excluded from the category altogether. When asked for religious identification, many declare atheist, agnostic, or “none” even though this fails to capture their often unique or complex belief systems. Currently, rapid and unprecedented advances in science and technology, along with increased focus on inter-, multi-, and transdisciplinary methodologies, are translating into innovative philosophical and metaphysical systems that challenge the definition of what we call religion. Among these scientific and spiritual innovators, scientific progress and spiritual growth are one and the same. How are these emerging spiritualities similar to or different from traditional theologies? What are the connections being made between religious and scientific belief? How do these new systems of belief constitute new religions or spiritualities? This paper explores cutting edge research at the confluence of science, religion, and spirituality through the methodological lens of Transdisciplinarity. The goal is to nuance dominant perceptions and definitions of science, religion, and spirituality, reveal the fragility and vulnerability of these categories, and recognize the theology of the “nones.”

Karuna
Berta Saenz
Paper Presentation in a Themed Session
I look beyond our immediate cultural tradition to explore how Buddhist thought approaches vulnerability and suffering. This approach is encapsulated in the concept of karuna, commonly translated as "compassion." In Mahayana Buddhism, the most widespread tradition in the West, karuna is a central practice and idea. Karuna is a response—the wisest response, according to Buddhism—to suffering. To understand it, we must first grasp the Buddhist perspective on suffering, harm, and violence. Scholars like Jay Garfield interpret the Buddha Shakyamuni’s First Teaching, the Four Noble Truths, in terms of structural violence. Similarly, David Loy draws bold parallels between the Buddhist concept of the Three Poisons and systemic violence in institutions like markets and militaries. Central to this framework is ahimsa, often translated as “non-violence” but more literally meaning “non-harm.” Compassion arises from a commitment not to add harm to an already suffering world. Stephen Jenkins links compassion to the ethics of non-violence, while Mahayana practices such as the brahmaviharas (Four Immeasurable Thoughts) and the Six Perfections embody the active response to alleviate suffering. The Bodhisattva, exemplified by Shantideva’s Bodhisattvacharyavatara, represents this ideal, embracing suffering and recognizing interdependence (pratityasamutpada). Compassion is seen as the most realistic response to suffering, as no being exists or suffers in isolation. This view challenges arbitrary divisions like wealth, gender, or nationality. Compassion, as both practice and fruit of understanding interconnection, becomes a transformative path toward kindness and resilience in a fragile world.
Science, Spirit and Secular Vulnerabilities
Hatice Sena Arıcıoğlu Senaaricioglu
Paper Presentation in a Themed Session
This study investigates Turkish spiritism, as a response to the moral and existential vulnerabilities emerging from Turkey’s modernization and secularization. Against the backdrop of the Republic's modernizing reforms, spiritism emerged as an effort to harmonize scientific inquiry and spiritual belief, challenging binary narratives that cast modern science and religion as irreconcilable. Turkish spiritists embraced spiritism as a "scientific" approach to spirituality, investigating metaphysical questions through structured séances and documentation while seeking to address what they perceived as a “moral gap” within secular reform. Using a combination of sociological and historical methods, the research analyses a wide array of primary sources, including spiritist biographies, official documents, doctrinal publications, and over 300 coded issues from six spiritist journals. Through prosopographical and qualitative text analysis, this study reveals the motivations and teachings of Turkish spiritists, constructing a group biography of over 200 spiritists and investigating their beliefs and practices within Turkey’s socio-political transformations. Examining how Turkish spiritists challenged dualistic frameworks of science versus religion and secular versus religious identities, the research explores how spiritists negotiated power, identity, and ideology within a dynamic religious field, often aligning spiritist doctrine with scientific methods to counteract secular vulnerabilities. Highlighting congruencies and conflicts in views on the natural world’s design, this study argues for a more nuanced understanding of secularization, one that acknowledges hybrid identities and diverse expressions of secularity. Ultimately, Turkish spiritism serves as a case study on how intellectuals reimagined science and religion to address vulnerabilities in an era of profound social change.
Fear and Loathing Upstate
Liam Greenwell
Poster Session
Upstate New York has a complicated—even antagonistic—relationship with New York City and the state government in Albany. Aggrieved by policies that many say do not take rural life into account, locals resent what they see as outsized influence of the metropolis over this sparsely populated part of the state. Right-wingers have taken up this feeling: President-elect Donald Trump has described New York City as a “filthy” “city in decline,” while columnists for the right-wing New York Post have fed into narratives around high crime and racial anxieties around migrants. This preliminary study, based on textual analysis and ethnographic fieldwork, frames this local affective orientation in terms of the region’s evangelicals. Christian tradition has deep connections to angst around the influence of cities going back to the Bible and writings of the Church Fathers. Fear of the city has also motivated evangelical conservative politics since the “Fourth Great Awakening” of the 1970s. Evangelicals in New York—which make up around 10% of the population—see themselves as the “tip of the spear” in an “anti-Christian” environment. Some blame local discord and backbiting on the presence of demons. The rural space is, then, a fallen one—what should be a stronghold of traditional values is infiltrated and corrupted by the debaucherous influences of the city and its tentacular influence over the rest of the state. The city, meanwhile, is simultaneously a zone of danger and opportunity—something to be feared while also a place to prove oneself as a true Christian amid various evil influences.
Unpacking the Divinity Debate: Jesus and the Demi-Gods
Essien Oku Essien
Workshop Presentation
This interactive workshop would explore a unique, interdisciplinary approach to a provocative question in comparative religion: Wasn’t the Earthly Jesus a Demi-God? We’ll dive into perspectives from religion, Greek mythology, and modern media to unpack this debate, drawing insights from ancient texts, myth theory, and mediatization theory. Participants will engage with contrasting viewpoints sourced from Greek mythological publications, biblical narratives, and popular screen interpretations, including Netflix’s The Legend of Hercules (2014). This session would use textual analysis and critical discourse techniques, focusing on the New Testament (King James Version) and key Greek myths. Participants will analyze how modern media shapes public perceptions of divinity and myth, comparing ancient portrayals of Greek demi-gods with New Testament depictions of Jesus (with references to Jesus’ images with Catholic-centric and Orthodox ideals). This session provides a hands-on exploration of how ancient and contemporary narratives influence each other, creating fresh insights into ongoing religious and cultural debates. Workshop Outcomes: 1. Gain Comparative Insights: Understand the contrasts and connections between Jesus’ divinity and Greek demi-god narratives. 2. Media Influence Analysis: Assess how platforms like Netflix mediate ancient myths for contemporary audiences. 3. Collaborative Discourse: Engage with peers in analyzing and debating these perspectives, fostering a critical approach to media and religion. The 15th International Conference on Religion and Spirituality in Society presents an ample opportunity to explore in-depth, this timely debate, where ancient history meets modern discourse to shed light on one of comparative religion’s most intriguing questions.

Fragile Laws, Firm Faith
Rishabh Gandhi
Paper Presentation in a Themed Session
The Jain ritual of Equanimous Death, encompassing Sallekhana and Santhara represents a deeply spiritual practice rooted in the ideals of renunciation and mental balance. Revered within Jain philosophy, this practice reflects an unwavering commitment to embracing mortality with serenity and purpose. Yet, as Indian legal systems grapple with balancing the sanctity of life and the freedom of religion, Equanimous Death has come under increasing scrutiny. This ancient tradition raises profound questions about how fragile modern laws can accommodate practices anchored in timeless spiritual truths. Indian jurisprudence, shaped by colonial histories and contemporary ideals, often falters when addressing rituals that blur the boundaries between autonomy, morality, and legality. In this evolving landscape, Equanimous Death offers a unique ethical lens to examine these tensions. It challenges the law’s temporal and ever-changing nature while exposing its inability to fully grasp the spiritual depth of such practices. By exploring landmark legal cases, constitutional principles, and philosophical discourses, this paper investigates how the Indian judiciary navigates this delicate intersection. In a world increasingly influenced by post-truth narratives—where emotional appeals often take precedence over objective reasoning—Equanimous Death demands a reevaluation of the law’s role in a rapidly changing society. Ultimately, this paper reflects on whether modern jurisprudence, shaped by transient social and political forces, can transcend its inherent limitations to honor practices that embody profound ethical and spiritual values. It seeks to provoke thought on the evolving relationship between faith, law, and the human pursuit of transcendence in contemporary India.

Frailty and Finitude as Ontological Conditions for Religion
Ricardo Santos Alexandre
Paper Presentation in a Themed Session
Religion has long been argued to exhibit a pragmatic dimension, serving as a mechanism for coping with stress or as a narrative tool to explain phenomena with unknown causes. While both claims hold a great deal of truth, they start one step ahead, addressing only part of the issue. This endorses the classic anthropological problem: to put ‘culture’ in the hands of individuals as if it were a tool, a device, or means to an end. In the case of religion, this perspective may hold in contemporary Western societies, where, as Peter Berger suggested, people can choose whether or not to follow a religion—religion has indeed become at our disposal. However, this objectification of religion as a tool does not hold for most other societies and does not fully capture religion's place in the human condition. In many so-called ethnographic societies, religion is not something apart, handled by individuals, but is deeply embedded in the texture of the socio-cultural existence of individuals. This study draws a preliminary sketch of an ontological approach to religion, highlighting its phenomenological, pre-subjective dimension. It draws on anthropological and ethnographic insights in order to frame ‘vulnerability’ and ‘frailty’ not as attributes of individual lives, but as existential predicates working as conditions of possibility for the religious phenomenon. In doing so, it challenges the notion of religion as merely a functional or explanatory device, seeking instead to reveal its deeper, intrinsic role in human existence.

The Dynamics of Sacred Space in Buddhism - Neuroscience, Culture, and Social Action
Francesca Benna
Paper Presentation in a Themed Session
Recent studies on sacred space have gained prominence across the social and human sciences, integrating interdisciplinary approaches from neuroscience, anthropology, and responses to social, political, and ecological challenges. This research examines how sacred space influences individual experiences, social behavior, and collective action. Neuroscientific contributions, such as those from Franco Fabbro, explore how meditative and religious practices activate brain mechanisms, highlighting the impact of space—both physical and symbolic—on mental states like concentration, calm, and transcendence. The design of sacred spaces, including architectural features, light, color, and symbolism, plays a significant role in shaping perception and sensory experience. Cultural anthropology, particularly through Francesco Remotti’s work, helps understand how spaces reflect and reinforce shared values, while Pierre Bourdieu’s concepts of habitus emphasize how physical arrangements influence social relationships. Sacred spaces in Engaged Buddhism are not only used for spiritual practices but also serve as centers for activism, promoting social justice, peace, and nonviolence. In Green Buddhism, sacred spaces embody ecological sustainability, using bioclimatic architecture, sustainable materials, and permaculture practices to demonstrate the interconnectedness of human and environmental well-being. Additionally, the use of technologies like 3D modeling and virtual reality offers new tools for analyzing how sacred spaces affect the mind and behavior, fostering sustainable practices and social justice actions. In conclusion, sacred space is dynamic, influencing both mental states and social change through its physical, symbolic, and ecological dimensions.
The Evolution of Trade and Pilgrimage in Haridwar
Radhika Goel,
Smriti Saraswat
Paper Presentation in a Themed Session
Haridwar, a sacred city in Uttarakhand in the Northern part of India, has historically functioned as both a pilgrimage site and a commercial hub. This study explores the transformation of its historical bazaar within the broader context of trade and pilgrimage. The objective is to examine how economic activities have evolved alongside religious tourism. This research aims to understand the intersection of trade activities and the spiritual landscape that has shaped Haridwar’s urban, religious, and economic landscape. Positioned within the disciplinary framework of trade history and urban historiography, this study employs a historiographical approach, drawing from primary sources such as archival records, travelogues, and historical maps, as well as secondary sources including scholarly articles and books. The methods used include comparative historical analysis and qualitative interpretation of spatial transformations. The research indicates that significant physical expansion in Haridwar began in the 18th century. Although trading activity was robust, the city lacked adequate infrastructure, forcing pilgrims and traders to seek lodging in nearby towns. The arrival of the railways shifted visitation patterns, reducing the prominence of the annual fair while reinforcing Haridwar's status as an important pilgrimage site. The findings demonstrate the deep connection between economic activity and religious tourism, which has shaped Haridwar's spatial and social landscape. The study concludes that these historical transitions are essential for the sustainable management of sacred urban centers, ensuring a balance between heritage preservation and economic growth.

Vulnerability and Spirituality within Christian Community in Nigeria
Peace Ngwoke
Paper Presentation in a Themed Session
This study examines the intricate interplay between vulnerability and spirituality within the Christian community by reflecting on the vulnerability among Christians in Nigeria. It explores how the vulnerable among the Christian community are exploited under the guise of spirituality and religiosity. Furthermore, it investigates the dynamic interaction between spirituality, a foundational aspect of Christian belief, and its impact on believer’s experiences of vulnerability. Through content analysis, the study unravels the complexities surrounding vulnerability and spirituality in the lives of Christians. The analysis explores the theological foundations that mould Christian perspectives on vulnerability and how these perspectives influence their experiences. The findings indicate potential challenges and tensions may emerge when grappling with vulnerability within a spiritual community. The phenomenon can be addressed through the dependence of believers on God, and the unity and mutual support among believers as members of the family of Christ. It concludes that spirituality can help the vulnerable to achieve spiritual development, strengthen relationships, and foster a significant bond with the divine. This connection is essential for supporting and uplifting vulnerable individuals within the Christian community.

Scientization and Religious Scientism in Won Buddhism
Sergei Sevriugin
Paper Presentation in a Themed Session
This research examines the cultural dynamics shaping the formation and practices of Won Buddhism as a transnational new religion movement (NRM). My primary emphasis is on the so-called ‘scientization,’ which signifies a contemporary tendency to incorporate scientific discourse into religious frameworks. I will explore how this process has played a pivotal role in the recent growth of Won Buddhism, as it seeks to establish legitimacy within ostensibly secular society, akin to other modern Buddhist organizations and the Mindfulness movement. My umbrella research question is as follows: What are the impacts and implications of the scientization of religion on belief systems, religious practices, and the relationship between science and religiosity? Under this falls sub-questions which provide further context specifically in the case of Won Buddhism: How does Won Buddhism and its members position themselves in regards of religion, science and secular society? Which means of communication and legitimization strategies do they focus on? How do they define religion and science? Therefore, the main objective of this project is to analyze strategies to legitimize activities of religious organizations such as Won Buddhism through appeals to science and related discourse. I identify the rhetoric and tensions it engages in to remain relevant for society. Understanding how Won Buddhism adapts its message and activities to resonate with diverse audiences in South Korea and New Zealand can unveil the evolving dynamics of religious reconceptualization in our increasingly interconnected and scientifically oriented world.
A Consideration on the Truth of Origin in Tenrikyo and the Origin of Human Beings in Science
Jessica Diniz
Paper Presentation in a Themed Session
Human existence is not a mere coincidence but holds profound intention and meaning. By exploring God's role in our lives, I hope to find insights into the purpose of our own existence. Additionally, I seek to understand the differences between the teachings of Tenrikyo and Darwin's theory of evolution. Evolutionary theory, one of the most widely accepted scientific explanations for the origin of species, describes the processes of natural selection and genetic variation as mechanisms through which life evolves and adapts over time. In contrast, Tenrikyo teaches that the origin of this world began in a muddy ocean from which humans were created. According to Tenrikyo, this creation occurred entirely through the thoughts and workings of God the Parent. While evolution and the teachings of Tenrikyo fundamentally differ, comparing the two can lead to a deeper understanding of the essence of life. I am particularly driven to investigate the similarities and unique features between the "Truth of Origin" and the processes described in evolutionary theory. For example, while both address the changes in life over time, evolutionary theory primarily explains biological diversity from a scientific perspective, whereas Tenrikyo emphasizes God's intentions and purposes. Understanding our origins is crucial because it helps us comprehend who we are, where we come from, why we exist, and how we connect with the world. This understanding significantly influences our worldview, beliefs, and interactions with others and the environment. By understanding our origins, I believe we can better understand ourselves and build stronger relationships with others.
Rationality Meets Secular Spirituality
Faezeh Izadi
Paper Presentation in a Themed Session
This paper explores the relationship between moral philosopher Mostafa Malekian’s Theory of Rationality and Spirituality (TRS) and both the discourse of new-age spirituality in the West and the spiritual lifestyle of Iranians. After presenting the theoretical frameworks of contemporary (secular) spiritualities and the TRS, the paper evaluates the TRS through four prominent features of contemporary spiritualities: syncretism, tolerance and pluralism, individualism and personal experiences, as well as flourishing and happiness. Additionally, the paper highlights the impact of the TRS on the increasing popularity of secular spirituality among Iranians, particularly educated youth, arguing that the TRS may be considered a significant factor in the acceptance of this new spiritual lifestyle among some Iranians. Utilizing a mixed-method approach, the analysis employs historical interpretative and critical descriptive methodologies. The framework of the 'Theory of Secularization' and the 'Theory of Multiple Modernities' is used to guide the examination. This study aims to explore secular spirituality, investigate Malekian's role as a 'spiritual intellectual,' and assess his ideas' impact on shaping a new spiritual lifestyle among Iranian-educated youth. Furthermore, it examines the shifting religiosity of Iranians over the last two decades and the growing popularity of secular and spiritual lifestyles in contemporary Iranian society. The findings contribute to the ongoing discourse on the interplay between traditional religion and modernity, shedding light on the factors influencing the adoption of non-religious spiritual lifestyles within the cultural and socio-political context of Iran.

Dandi Sanyasi in the Sacred City of Kashi
Vineet Kumar
Paper Presentation in a Themed Session
This research delves into the spiritual significance of Kashi (Varanasi) by examining the mystique surrounding the city and the lives of Dandi Swamis residing in Mumukshu Bhavan. The study adopts a predominantly qualitative approach, supported by secondary data to contextualize the significance of Kashi in the pursuit of Moksha (liberation) and the unique lifestyle of these ascetics. The research draws on existing literature, government publications, and sample surveys to build a conceptual framework, while primary data collection incorporates non-probability sampling techniques, participant observation, and semi-structured interviews. Dandi Swamis, who have migrated to Kashi, are studied to understand their motivations, perspectives on Moksha, and the role the city plays in their spiritual journey. Participants were fully informed of the study's purpose, ensuring confidentiality and voluntary participation. Interviews, conducted in Hindi and English, explored core questions such as the meaning of Moksha and how residing in Kashi influences its attainment.
“My Spirituality Gives Me the Opportunity to Serve Others”
Ayesha Ali
Paper Presentation in a Themed Session
Research on individuals who identify as spiritual but not religious (SBNR) has largely focused on personal aspects of belief, such as self-improvement, self-actualization, cognition, and personality. In contrast, the social dimensions of spirituality remain underexplored, despite extensive research showing that organized religions foster community and belonging. This study examines the social benefits derived from SBNR practices. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with SBNR individuals in and around Glastonbury to explore the benefits of spiritual practice and/or affiliation. Participants generated lists of perceived benefits during the interviews. These lists and interview transcripts are being analyzed using reflexive thematic analysis. Preliminary findings suggest that the benefits of SBNR practice extend beyond the individual. All participants described how their spiritual practice fosters relationships and connections, and many emphasized service as a core aspect of their spirituality. Implications: Like religious individuals, spiritual individuals create meaningful bonds and communities that provide social benefits at personal, familial, and societal levels. Spirituality—along with its associated practices, beliefs, festivals, and rituals—should be recognized and protected by the state in the same manner as religious freedoms.

Witnessing Other Worlds and Tending to Homeplace
Anthony Cruz Pantojas
Paper Presentation in a Themed Session
This paper looks to the perspectives of Black feminisms, decolonial thought, and esoterism to develop practices of relational witnessing that upend our liberal humanist framings of religion and spirituality. Relational witnessing evinces ethical, and perhaps, strategically risky opportunities to listen to and affirm the resistant liveliness of those rendered subaltern. This concept of witnessing also contributes to an ontology of interconnectivity and the common towards collective liberation and flourishing. The main question that grounds this paper is: how do we develop witnessing practices that heed the otherwise and metaphysical to instantiate a pluriversal imaginary outside the persistent Regime of Man? Throughout this autoethnographic and reflective treatise, I describe the worldmaking practices of activist-scholars, including my own, within the archive of the otherwise, to better apprehend our social condition and to transform it. This paper also foregrounds the “homeplaces” of activist-scholars from the margins, or sites of creative vitalism.

The Religious Legacy from the Papacy of John Paul II in Defining Polish Identity
Anastasia Kulaga
Paper Presentation in a Themed Session
In the 1990s, countries like Poland in Eastern Europe could no longer sustain the instability of Soviet rule and were eager to gain independence. The collapse of Soviet domination in Poland after 1989 allowed the country to democratize politically and restore religious freedom. John Paul II used this moment to reignite religion within Poland’s socio-cultural fabric, reminding the nation of its deep-rooted Catholic traditions. By integrating religiosity into Poland’s major political movement, Solidarność, John Paul II succeeded at fostering a stronger religious consciousness among the Polish people. During John Paul II’s papacy, individuals' admiration for him came from his presence during the fall of Communism and his influence afterwards. The positive association between John Paul II and Catholicism made individuals in Poland increasingly subscribe to Catholicism and consider it an integral part of their Polish identity. The research considers how John Paul II's papacy strengthened the role of the Catholic Church in Polish societies as an integral part of Polish identity.
Affluence and the Economy Behind Oracles - an Experiential Study of Klaros
Recep Can Mert
Paper Presentation in a Themed Session
Drawing from Baumard et al.'s (2015) findings on the connection between Affluence and the Emerging of Ascetic Wisdoms, this study combines the already established sensory study of the Oracle at Claros with popularizing Oracle sites, from Archaic to Classical and Rome. In doing so, the paper focuses on the lively experience and its change. Because of its subjective nature, one single entity of a notion of experience cannot be established, but boundaries can be. The Magna Mater findings around Claros, possible Lydian existence through numerous coinage findings in the patron city of Colophon, Persian influence, and the story of exile to Ephesus, while affluence of Colophon was likely, Notion and the connection of the Ionian cities to the Athenian Empire, coming of Roman Empire and establishment of new infrastructure and essential positions, as well as the demise of the Greek Sanctuaries with the rise of Christianity, are all important “macro” events that effect the overall perception and experience of the sacred spaces. Within these terms, the study uses Numismatical and Archaeological evidence, Sensory Archaeology, and Interdisciplinary study to provide a new interpretation and outlook on sacred Spaces in Asia Minor and the Mediterranean. In doing so, the issues of politics and vulnerability are touched upon.
