Abstract
In recent decades, there has been a recomposition of the political right in the USA and Brazil towards a conservative and nationalist frame, for which the political mobilization of the evangelical religious identity has been decisive. This research aims to understand how the evangelical political movement mobilized politically to become an important element for the electoral bases of the new right. Firstly, in its capacity to elect representatives to public office (both in the legislative and executive branches), and secondly, in the decision-making process of public policies in three arenas (case studies): response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the crisis of climate change, and the cultural war surrounding gender and reproductive rights issues. Thus, we endeavor to explain how evangelicals drive politics as electoral bases and policy as demanding constituencies throughout the accession and duration of Donald Trump’s and Jair Bolsonaro’s presidencies.
