Abstract
The Namdhari Sikhs, a reformist sect within Sikhism, have significantly contributed to promoting religious harmony and interfaith dialogue. Established in the 19th century by Guru Ram Singh, the sect emphasizes non-violence, universal brotherhood, and spiritual purity. A key aspect of their mission involves organizing inter-religious conferences to foster understanding and collaboration among various faiths. This paper explores the role of Namdhari Sikhs in organizing inter-religious conferences, focusing on their objectives, methodologies, and the impact of these initiatives. The conferences aim to promote mutual respect, highlight common ethical values, and address global challenges through multi-religious dialogue. Methods A qualitative approach is used, drawing on historical records, case studies, and reports from recent conferences. The analysis focuses on key events such as the inter-religious conferences of 2023, and 2024, examining their structure, outcomes, and broader implications for religious harmony. The Namdhari Sikhs’ inter-religious conferences have proven successful in creating platforms for dialogue among diverse religious communities. Key outcomes include resolutions on social justice, environmental sustainability, and efforts to combat violence and inequality. The 2023 and 2024 conferences highlighted global issues such as climate change and ethical leadership. The 1956 conference marked a pioneering effort in interfaith dialogue, addressing communal peace in post-independence India. The Namdhari Sikhs have made substantial contributions to religious unity and peace-building through their inter-religious conferences. These initiatives have reinforced their identity as promoters of inclusivity and social welfare. Future conferences could enhance their impact by incorporating digital platforms and focusing on youth engagement.
