Vulnerability and Spirituality within Christian Community in Nigeria: A Critical Analysis

Abstract

This study examines the intricate interplay between vulnerability and spirituality within the Christian community by reflecting on the vulnerability among Christians in Nigeria. It explores how the vulnerable among the Christian community are exploited under the guise of spirituality and religiosity. Furthermore, it investigates the dynamic interaction between spirituality, a foundational aspect of Christian belief, and its impact on believer’s experiences of vulnerability. Through content analysis, the study unravels the complexities surrounding vulnerability and spirituality in the lives of Christians. The analysis explores the theological foundations that mould Christian perspectives on vulnerability and how these perspectives influence their experiences. The findings indicate potential challenges and tensions may emerge when grappling with vulnerability within a spiritual community. The phenomenon can be addressed through the dependence of believers on God, and the unity and mutual support among believers as members of the family of Christ. It concludes that spirituality can help the vulnerable to achieve spiritual development, strengthen relationships, and foster a significant bond with the divine. This connection is essential for supporting and uplifting vulnerable individuals within the Christian community.
