Abstract
Cultural events in the Malang Regency, such as Larung Saji and Suroan, have gained prominence due to the active participation of both the community and the local government in organizing these festivals. However, when these events are packaged and disseminated through digital media, the original meanings associated with them begin to shift. This phenomenon illustrates how media plays a role in constructing new meanings. What was once considered sacred and exclusive to a select group of people becomes more accessible and public. The greater the role of digital media, the more pronounced this shift in meaning becomes. This study examines how meaning is constructed on the Instagram platform through the account @jokororokabmalang, which showcases the Larung Saji and Suroan events. Utilizing multimodal discourse analysis, this research explores how the representation of these events has shifted from being perceived purely as sacred rituals to being viewed more as cultural festivals. Furthermore, the transformation of these rituals into festivals has significant implications for the tourism industry.
