Social network analysis can be a tool for linking the micro and macro levels in sociological theory, which can also be important for political scientists, especially for international relations experts specializing in international conflicts. According to the theory, two people's friendship networks are more likely to match each other based on the strength of their ties to each other. The impact of the strength of the connection is studied on the principle of influence and information diffusion, the possibility of mobility and the organization of society. What is emphasized is the cohesive force of weak ties.

Emerging Countries and New Global Governance

Since 2008, and especially in the last decade, the multilateral institutions derived from Bretton Woods have been under check denoting that the international order has reached a critical stage. This process can also be evidenced by the increasing criticism concerning the role and performance of the international institutions in force. This issue addresses to the emergent countries and their movement towards reviewing their participation in the international arena. At this point, the rise of China and the willingness of these intermediate countries (such as Russia, India, Brazil and South Africa) to revisit their insertion on global governance scope, led to the conformation of the BRICS - aiming to cooperate and reach a higher level of development accompanied by a repositioning in the international arena. In this context, what is the role of the global community to move forward and contribute to the process of designing relevant institutional guidelines to overcome contemporary demands within the international arena? Which dynamics should be revisited to face the present challenges and how do domestic politics and actors interfere in shaping global governance? These are some questions related to this study, taking into account the interests and features that affect the policy-making processes. By rethinking contemporary features of Global Governance through the International Political Economy approach - debating which kind of measures and shapes for the international organizations would be suitable and fit better the contemporary challenges for cooperation - this research intends to debate the key features for structuring a “New Global Governance” institutional framework.

Evaluating Local Worker Satisfaction of Chinese Firms in Africa

Chinese investment in Africa is often assessed from a macroeconomic perspective, emphasizing infrastructure growth, trade volumes, and geopolitical influence. However, a key puzzle remains: How do local workers experience and perceive Chinese firms, and why do narratives of Chinese engagement oscillate between developmental success and exploitative practices? This study addresses this gap by focusing on the China Harbour Engineering Company (CHEC) in Côte d’Ivoire, one of West Africa’s fastest-growing economies. Through a survey of CHEC’s local workforce, the research evaluates job satisfaction across dimensions such as workplace conditions, management practices, salary fairness, and opportunities for skills transfer. The findings reveal mixed perceptions, with workers acknowledging CHEC’s efficiency and employment opportunities but raising concerns about safety standards, limited advancement, and cultural integration. A comparative analysis with perceptions of French firms operating in the same context highlights how management styles and historical relationships influence worker satisfaction. By grounding the analysis in the lived experiences of African laborers, this study bridges the gap between macroeconomic narratives and micro-level realities. The insights provide policymakers, businesses, and civil society with a deeper understanding of how foreign investments can balance efficiency with equitable labor practices, fostering sustainable development in Africa.
