Artificial Intelligence and Active Inquiry: The Intersection of Social Epistmology and Technical Discovery

Abstract

In this paper, I explore the intersection between Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Active Inquiry (AI). Leveraging the insights in Marvin Minsky’s “The Society of Mind”, the later works of Ludwig Wittgenstein, and technological advancements in prompt engineering, I present connections of the of nature of dialogue and the limits of knowledge. The epistmological and metaphysical search for the truth, as I explore, is resident in pursuit of expanding capabilities of agents - machines and humans - to picture the world as we know it and imagine it. Through asking questions and seeking to understand what we can and can’t know per se.
