Week 8 Task - Game-Based Learning

AI concepts usually take a good amount of time and effort to fully understand, especially for younger students who may struggle with them due to their complexity. A more practical approach using a game to teach these concepts would ensure more user engagement while providing the added benefit of being able to gauge the students' understanding at the end to see how much they have learnt about these concepts.

One game that is already wildy used and that comes with a number of resources available is Minecraft Education Edition. This game can be used to teach students how AI is used to automate certain processes as well as how AI agents use data and sesnors in order to perform these tasks. The game consists of a number of programming challenges where the player would use languages like Python or MakeCode Blocks in order to complete a task and solve the challenge. These challenges may vary in difficulty and can also allow a wide variety of tasks that the student can code their agent to perform.

Within the classroom teachers could set the software up and prepare the challenges for the students. The students would then be given time to perform the coding challenges with assistance from their teachers. Afterwards they would take part in a discussion to see what they have learnt from these challenges and would also be given the opportunity to voice their opinions on them and how they can be improved upon.

Evaluation on the learning goals would be accomplished by noting what the students said in their discussion to ensure that they to ensure that they understood the concepts as well as by checking how they did in their challenges to note their performance and how difficult they found them to be.
