Week 9 Task - VR/AR Technology in History Courses
A course that I think would benefit greatly from the use of VR/AR would be the History course. The use of both VR and AR would allow students to experience first-hand a number of historical places and objects that they would otherwise only be able to see through images or videos.
Through the use of VR and AR students would get a better idea of what the afforementioned places and objects are like to get a better understanding of the material that they are being taught in the lectures. This would also provide the students with a more interactive experience that they would only be able to get if they were to actually visit historical sites ore museums, which is not always possible.
Within the course, VR and AR would be used alongside lectures to provide additional content that the student can view to increase their knowledge on what they were being taught in the lecture. Students would be able to select from a number of prepared videos, models and environments to view so that they can get a first-hand look at what they are really like.
VR can be used to show students videos that can provide them of a tour of a historical place. It can also allow students to explore 3D models of places as they are now or as they are though to have appeared in the past.
AR can be used to show students 3D models of objects. These allow students to see these objects in detail and sometimes with additional features like providing information on the object or giving the option to see an x-ray view to see more details that are not normally visible.
The students' feedback would be used determine how much they learnt using VR and AR and whether they want to see more models or videos or even ones that focus on a different aspect of the topic being taught.
