Week 3 Task - ScootPad

ScootPad is an adaptive learning tool which helps students learn new concepts by adapting the curriculum to their specific needs. This is done by utilising a number of features, inlcuding those used to establish the current knowledge base of the student, adapt the curriculum to the needs of the student through a process known as scaffolding and also providing educators with the means to monitor each student's progress.

Each student starts by performing an adaptive placement assessment to determine how well they know the concepts that they must learn. This determines which concepts the student needs most help with and determines the approach taken to ensure that the student will be able to become proficient in them.

After this is established scaffolding is then used to help the students learn the concepts that they struggle in most by breaking them down into smaller parts or by learning a simpliefied version. Once the student grasps these smaller chunks they can return to the original concept and try to learn it again.

ScootPad also provides educators with detailed information on each student's progress, which includes the proficiency levels for the concepts that they are learning.
