Abstract
The 4.0 revolution, coupled with the COVID-19 pandemic, the unprecedented AI advances, and the pervasive digital technologies, have irreversibly shaped the teaching, learning, and research contexts to respond to the modern scholars’ and students’ needs and expectations. As a result, interdisciplinary methods have become a requisite for numerous higher education actors and are likely to produce faster and more complex knowledge acquisition and research results, irrespective of the application field. Using the literature criticism method, we set the general framework and highlight the necessity of cross-disciplinary approaches to engage and prepare students and support scholarly endeavors. Following the experience-based learning methodology, we set the context for our case study approach derived from a digital humanities R&D project outlining its interdisciplinary learning potential with benefits for students studying sciences and humanities. The analysis provides a detailed overview of its application in research in education and applicability to active learning methods for group work such as SCALE-UP.
