Drama and Music for Integration and Intercultural Learning in ...
Abstract
Increasingly, artistic and expressive media have been used as tools for psychoeducational intervention. This proposal describes the implementation and evaluation of an intercultural experience in a Galician primary and kindergarten school, where the majority of the students are at risk of social exclusion and almost 40 percent are of Gypsy ethnicity. The intervention was developed through games and various artistic languages, mainly music and theater. The objective was to raise awareness of the Gypsy culture, develop a positive identity, and integrate Gypsy students into the life of the educational community. All the dynamics were aimed at the realization of a short film that was planned on the International Day of the Gypsy Village. The results obtained through a qualitative evaluation show an improvement in relationships, an increase in security and confidence in Gypsy students to express their own cultural identity, and a positive vision of the Gypsy culture by non-Gypsy students. The results allow us to guide new methodological strategies and reflections on the implementation of upcoming projects.
