Assignment 21 Personal Digital Medial Log

My online behavior says that I am faced daily with news and information relating to gun politics and presidential politics. I may have been a bit too involved in the reading the news feeds on Facebook when the campaign was happening and this is what continues to come back in the form of news. I think my behavior also says that I do not spend a lot of time on social media sites, I do not spend any time on some of the large sites such as Instagram and snapchat, but most of my searching for news is done on yahoo, Facebook, and LinkedIn. It really opened my eyes to venturing out and looking into new sources for information, such as real newspapers. The digital media log also showed me that I do not show my whole personal self on the web and social media sites, as I think it should be. People who use these sites often only show the good sides on Facebook and it would be impossible to show everything that we got though including some of the frustrating challenges that we face. I don’t think I act like I am somebody else, but I definitely do not show some of the challenges and disappointments that I feel either. I do think that I am genuine with my friendships that I have on my profiles and I do not add anyone to as my friends to my accounts, I am diligent in knowing who a person is before I add them and invite them into my community. I would hire someone like me because I do not have anything on my profile that would be discriminating, racists, or too political that would deter a employer from hiring me. I think if I were to change anything on my social media, I would try to be more honest and open. I think there are people who are just open about their life on social media and they do a great job posting videos and updates about their life, I am not quite there where I feel comfortable enough to post videos of myself on my social media account. I probably have postings every few months and I would like to leverage some of the new technologies to help my friends and family feel like they are more connected to me even if it is just through the social media sites. I don’t believe my online life has gotten in the way of my real relationships in person. I think school and work have consumed my past three years and that really has been my main area of concentration, not social media. The ethical issues in social media that I have found is the amount of trolling that happens on sites like twitter, Facebook and other sites. I had never stopped to read and look through those comments and it had astonished me to see how badly people behave online and how it is can also be just a robot on the other side! I have also been exposed to some of the great ways that technology and social media has enhanced our quality of life, like sharing news for local fast information on emergencies and options for donation funding when someone actually faces a disaster, like we did her in Sonoma County with the fires.
