New Learning MOOC’s Updates
MATATAG: A New Curriculum
A big shift to the educational system of the Philippines was experienced when the K-12 Curriculum was implemented where the basic education was changed from 10 to 12 years. Last year, a new curriculum was proposed and its implementation started this school year. Kinder, Grade 1, Grade 4 and Grade 7 are under the pilot implementation of the new curriculum. Trainings are sponsored for administrators and teachers for its familiarization. There are several changes from the previous practices. One of this is the time alloted per learning area. From 1 hour, per session now only lasts for 45 minutes. Aside from that, the subject Edukasyon sa Pagpapakatao is changed to Values Education. One significant change in the curriculum is the number of the Most Essential Learning Competencies. In the old curriculum, the MELCS are congested. In the new curriculum, the curriculum developers lessen their number.
As foot soldiers in this profession, it is needed that we learn to be flexible and adaptable for change is really inevitable. There are many adjustments to be done just to provide quality education that each student deserves.
