The Role of Civil Society in the Democratic Transition of Kosovo
Abstract
The engagement of civil society in its advisory form helps to create conditions for strengthening citizen participation in various discussions that will contribute to better orientation of public policies, reflecting the four components of political culture: citizens’ beliefs, behavior, values, and attitude toward political institutions and representatives within institutions. This study deals with an analysis of the civil society’s role in the Kosovo institutions during the course of democratic transition. To analyze the role of civil society and its impact on the Kosovo institutions, we will rely on empirical research (n = 1,007) random sample, including non-governmental organizations and civil society members. The analysis of the empirical results, which is also supported by the theoretical framework, shows that civil society should work even more with the institutions to successfully transition from communism to liberal democracy.
