Abstract

The article examines the legal mechanism of national support for local self-government in Ukraine. Its aim is to define the concept and structure of the legal mechanism of government support for local self-governments in Ukraine and determine the place and role of its key elements in the implementation of national policy. Toward this end, the historical, legal, and comparative legal methods were used to analyze the legal mechanisms of national support for local self-government. As a result, it is established that the structural components of these legal mechanisms should include both the regulatory and the organizational components. It is also determined that the need for national support for local self-government is driven by the fact that local authorities participate in the implementation of the majority of public policies at the local level. Therefore, it is claimed that the mechanism of national support for local self-government are within the mechanism of democratic country governance, based on the understanding of local self-government as one of the country’s fundamental functions. The role of the legislative, executive, and judicial branches in providing legal mechanisms of national support for local self-government is specified. Finally, the structure of these mechanisms, as well as the forms and methods of its implementation, is determined.
