Abstract

The present study discusses the sociocultural strains in China–Africa relations through a case study on Nigeria. The study identifies and explores factors such as media influence, stereotypes, racial and class struggles, and attitudes of political actors that contribute to sociocultural strains and racial discrimination faced by Nigerian migrants in China. The findings uncover the lingering unkind treatment of Nigerians and other African migrants and signal the need to build a common cultural understanding between the peoples of both parties to avert possible future implications. The study concludes by suggesting remedies and an opportunity to explore by both parties.
