Abstract

Recent research has highlighted the importance of music education for its benefits to health and quality of life. Active musical practice is already producing results, such as the project being developed in L’Alcora (Spain) to improve the quality of life of older people through music. This article provides an overview of some of the projects that are being developed from the research and musical quality of the L’Alcora project, as well as future projects and possible lines of research and training. The theoretical framework includes relevant studies focusing on music for health. A qualitative methodology was used to establish relationships with the articles reviewed and the projects carried out. In conclusion, it can be said that, although it is known that music has benefits for quality of life, it is not yet considered relevant in the educational system. Musical training needs to rethink its current curriculum, to provide new profiles that can respond to the current demands of society. Finally, it is important that music education and health establish alliances to improve the quality of life and as non-invasive therapy.
