Creating Cultural Sculpture
Abstract
Sculptural art is the result of human mental activity, representing the materialization of human cognition. Its creation throughout history serves as a profound record of the evolving human mind and the characteristics of its time. In the field of cognitive science, Professor Cai Shushan classifies human cognition into five levels, including neural cognition, psychological cognition, linguistic cognition, thinking cognition, and cultural cognition. Based on the theory of five levels of human cognitive science, this article changes the conventional chronological approach, by exploring the relationship between the development of sculpture art and human consciousness, redraws the development sequence of traditional Chinese sculpture art, and analyzes the development form of sculpture art at different levels. The results reveal the importance for sculptors to improve their cultural awareness, which will guide sculpture art creation and sculpture education.
