Comparative Analysis
Abstract
The purpose of this study was to examine ISIS-related coverage in three online English language dailies across three separate continents, namely Asia, Europe, and North America, over a one-month period in December 2014. The content analysis specifically compared three newspapers, “Dawn,” “The Telegraph,” and “USA Today,” in terms of the number of stories related to ISIS, the use of visuals, and type of story. This study used quantitative and qualitative approaches to answer the research questions in the study. The purpose was to determine whether the number of ISIS stories, type of coverage, and use of visuals in the storytelling process significantly differed between the three newspapers. The results showed a significant difference in the type of coverage.
