Communication and Sexuality in Adolescence
Abstract
This article analyzes the results of a systematic review of the scientific production on communication, sexuality, and adolescence, published between January 2012 and December 2022. For this purpose, the databases Web of Science, Scopus, and SciELO were consulted, and the inclusion criteria were based on keywords in English. The findings indicate that the United States has the largest publications on this topic, followed by the Netherlands and Belgium. Similarly, it is identified that there has been a gradual increase in the publication of studies related to communication and sexuality in adolescence, reaching a peak in 2020 with a production of twenty articles related to the final descriptors. In previous years, this number decreased until four contributions were published in 2012. It is concluded that there is a research gap on communication and sexuality in adolescents from sexual minorities, with cognitive disabilities or with diseases such as HIV, as well as the development of longitudinal studies to identify the dynamics of communication in adolescent sexuality through the different stages (early, middle, and late).
