Abstract

This research aims to trace the impact of social movements and how successful companies communicate a commitment to Diversity, Equity, Access, and Inclusion (DEAI). A content analysis of the top 50 Fortune 500 companies’ websites and annual board reports for 2022 was conducted to determine levels of commitment to DEAI. Results found that 100 percent of the companies communicated a commitment to Diversity and Access, and 96 percent communicated a commitment to Inclusion. While only 44 percent communicated a commitment to Equity. Evidence suggests successful companies communicate a commitment to diversity, access, and inclusion on company websites and annual board reports. However, communicating a commitment to equity is not as common among the same companies. This research adds to the diversity, equity, access, and inclusion literature by attempting to draw a connection between commitment to DEAI and business success. The practical implications are that company websites and annual board reports are opportunities for companies to communicate their commitment to DEAI. The top Fortune 100 companies are role models for other businesses. Aspiring businesses will follow suit as they continue communicating a commitment to DEAI.
