Abstract

This article focuses on climate change and global health, as both are included in the Sustainable Development Goals. A political perspective and the concept of the public sphere were considered to analyze them as the state is supposed to ensure human security, implying people’s health. The case of Mexico is considered for the analysis for the period 2016 to 2020, before the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, i.e., the last two years of the preceding administration and the first two of the current one. The research question is, how can the effects of climate change be reduced in Mexico to ensure a healthier population? We hypothesize that an unhealthy planet carries unhealthy people. Questions to guide the investigation are as follows: What is the role of politics in facing climate change and global health? Is climate change related to global health? Which are the effects of climate change on health? What actions have been pursued by Mexico to tackle climate change during the last two years? Which activities can palliate climate change consequences in citizens’ lives?
