Abstract

The boundaries between reality, consciousness, and the subconscious mind are blurred in surrealism. This study examines the use of these representations, the development of nontraditional characters, and the portrayal of bizarre scenes in Murakami’s After Dark. This endeavor offers an investigation into the mysteries of human life and the workings of the human mind. This qualitative analysis questions conventional wisdom and encourages a nuanced perception of reality impervious to the rigid classification of sense of self. The approach entails a thorough critical analysis of significant sections of the novel. After Dark offers a profound reflection on the complicated nature of human reality by closely examining and dissecting societal assumptions by incorporating bizarre aspects into its narrative structure. This analysis successfully illustrates how surrealist elements are incorporated into the story and grasp reality in a way that makes it possible to investigate the hidden facets of the human psyche.
