New Learning MOOC’s Updates

Will teaching move backwards with e-learning

Update: There have been a number of studies looking at the effectiveness of e-learning vs traditional face t face. One of the issues with looking at this is how do we measure effectiveness and discusses in the following journal: https://files.eric.ed.gov/fulltext/EJ1062121.pdf

Many studies how shown how e-learning can increase the effectiveness of teaching. Making it much easier to work in a reflexive mode with easy way to direct students to support and challenge within a single class using e-learning techniques and flipped learning. Students can carry out more basic what would be didactic teaching themselves with the use of various online resources and programs, so that with a flipped learning method students can attend active lessons ready to build more in reflexive learning by recreating knowledge in a new scenarios.

How ever the risk remains that staff without the correct training on how to instruct students on using LLM such as AI and devices in lessons will simply be carrying out didactic and mimesis teaching and learning. I have seen many teachers create banks of videos of them teaching concepts or talking through problems, but rather than this being a resource in a transformative classroom or flipped learning it becomes an easy lesson for the teacher. Watch the video and then mark a self marked quiz from an online program. If we do not train staff and students in how to effectively use e-learning to personalise activities, support and challenge for the individuals it will just become a new looking but old fashioned style of teaching.
