New Learning MOOC’s Updates
Hello from Norway!
Hello, everyone! I am an American educator living in Oslo, Norway. For the last ten years, I have worked as both a primary and secondary teacher in different countries around the world. I am now aiming to make a permanent shift from teaching into working in EdTech or a learning and development role in the corporate world. Digital media plays a huge role in my daily life and my career. My favorite apps are ones that help my organize my life such as Google Calendar, Todoist, Notes, etc. I also enjoy apps that boost my creativity. For example, I use Freeform, Canva, Cricut, and various other apps to create art, lesson plan, or journal.
I have used a wide array of e-learning environments over the last 10 years. Most recently, my school began using a program called Toddle to plan units/lessons, document student learning, grade and provide feedback, post pictures and reflect on the learning we are doing as teachers and the learning of our students. Some of the worst experiences I have had with e-learning are ones that feel meaningless and irrelevant to me, my students, or my work or those that are extremely complicated to grasp and use efficiently. I feel that learning needs to be meaningful in order to be most effective.
I am taking this course in order to broaden my horizons about e-learning and the ways it can possibly hinder and enhance our educational experiences. I also want to use the knowledge gained from this course to help me as I apply for new jobs in the corporate world.
This document is useful for me in comparing learning and teaching methods to choose the appropriate option for each specific situation.
