Ubiquitous Learning and Instructional Technologies MOOC’s Updates
Take one aspect of big data in education. How does it work? What are its effects?
One aspect of big data in education is the ability to measure students responses to a class. An example of this the the WOW room at IE Business School which is for blended and online education. This room not only allows the teacher to connect with both distance and in-person learners but also through AI, big data analysis and emotional recognition systems can provide vital feedback on the class for example by measuring students' reactions i.e. if they are yawning, if they are not paying attention etc. This in turn allows the teacher to anaylse and recognise what works and what does not in their classes. In the "old-school" classroom, teachers did not have the resources or the capacity to be able to do this, which resulted in them being unable to grow and develop as teachers. Using big data to identify how the students are engaged in the class means that there is this constant review of the class to ensure the highest level of teaching.
