Update #5 Padlet. Collaborative and innovative!
Padlet is a powerful app that provides students with a space and a place for all kinds of innovative collaboration. It is free, easily and quickly accessible, and it is multimedia, which really appeals to students. The teacher merely sets up the 'wall', and then students are free to jot down their ideas, add relevant pictures, embed videos, and even add up to 15 minutes of a voice recording.
English language learners quickly come to mind with this app. Perhaps the teacher wants the students to practice their oral language skills by reflecting on a reading or citing evidence from the text to support thier arguments. The English language learners can record their responses on their own and then post them for everyone to view. ELLs and shy or introverted students will appreciate the opportunity to practice their oral skills without having a class of students stare at them as they speak. ELLs also benefit from the visual nature of Padlet, as pictures and drawings may be added to the wall as well.
Padlet creates a truly collaborative space where students can share ideas, thoughts, and examples surrounding a topic of study. Padlets are very effective for creating KWL charts, as students freely add what they already know about a topic, with the option to add photos and videos. Students can then post questions about what they want to learn about the topic. After the topic of study is over, students can revisit the wall and add what they have learned. All of the information posted is valuable to everyone in the classroom.
