Digital Media Log- Jennifer Hernandez
Update:
My online behavior probably makes it seem like I am addicted to the internet and social media sites. I definitely noticed that I engage in technology way more often than I have realized. I do not participate in any online gaming, and definitely do not take my anonymity for granted. On the internet, I have never said bad or negative things to other users, nor have I had any desire to do so. On my social media platforms, I definitely show my personality and tend to be pretty honest and personal. Although like everyone else I know, I critically look at each picture and only post pictures that I want to show other people. Personally, I do not have any “online friends” necessarily because everyone that I interact with in social media, I know in real life. It would be a much different story if I were into online gaming and other websites where I would interact with strangers. I would definitely hire someone who is like me, because I would want to hire someone with the same attributes as me. Some of these attributes that I possess I would definitely want in an employee, such as hard-working, dedicated, kind, and punctual. I don’t see any issues with hiring someone who is like myself, because I believe that I have attributes that are perfect for an employee. I always believed that there is room for improvement and positive change. There are tons of areas that I would like to work on and improve on such as advocating, perseverance, and working under stress and pressure. There is always room for improvement and that is so encouraging to think about. I believe that my online life is getting in the way of my real life. The social media websites especially takes over the time I have with friends, socializing, homework, and other things that I want to do. It seems that whenever I'm bored, I take out my phone and look at social media. Which, in reality, only makes me feel worse. I look at all my friends doing all these fun things through pictures and posts on facebook, instagram, and snapchat, while I’m just lying on the couch hiding behind a screen. Then these pictures that people post, make me feel bad about my body and what my life is like. While I’m looking at my social media there could be so many other things that I could be doing like going outside, spending time with friends, or just being by myself with my thoughts. With this course, I am definitely starting to understand to what extent technology has taken over my life. Of course, I knew that I was probably spending too much time on it, and that it was affecting me. Although, by doing this log and really analyzing my technology use, it has really made me take a step back. Going forward, I really want to lessen the amount of time I go on the internet and on social media.
