Bio Update
Hello everyone! I am an undergradute at the University of Illinois Champaign-Urbana studying Workplace Training and Development. This is a new program at the UofI which partners with the Human Resource Development master's program. It has been really informative and encrouaging to take classes with master's students to learn from their experiences and see what other people are doing in their careers.
I chose this major because I have a strong interest in communication, business, and education. Currently, my ideal job would be a Corporate Trainer; this would allow me to combine my passion for both teaching and business. However, recently, I have been made aware of many other interesting paths I could take such as Change Management, Consulting, Process engering, Talent Acquisition and many more. I am hoping to explore these different fields over the next year through internships and job shadowing.
I am from a small town called Johnsburg in Illinois (about 15 minutes from the Wisconsin border). Next semester I will be studying abroad in Florence, Italy. I am beyond excited for the new experiences and perspectives I will gain there! And also for Gelato! :)
Human Resources Development is a really interesting major from what I have heard. I took a few LER classes as an undergrad and really enjoyed them. I had a brief stint in Talent Acquisition after I graduated. Human Resources is a very broad field and Talent Acquisition is definitely an interesting facet of the field. There are so many steps and processes that take place just to bring in a new employee, it is crazy. Plus all of the laws in place that have to be followed during the process of onboarding a new employee.
I really enjoy your enthusiasm to learn and wish you the best of luck with studying abroad in Italy, it sounds amazing.
