Dr JosAnn Cutajar is a lecturer within the Gender Studies Department at the University of Malta. Her present research focuses on contentious politics within socially deprived areas where she makes use of feminist epistemologies and research methods to carry out her research. .In her research she makes use of the theories she teaches in gender, sociology and community studies. She is also involved in a number of community projects, including the President's Trust. In the recent past she helped set up and run the University of Malta Cottonera Resource Centre. The objective of this centre was to come up with projects which could help students from non-traditional backgrounds further their educaiton. For this project she was honoured with the 2016 EPALE award. She has edited two sociology textbooks, and a book on a socially deprived area in Malta. She is also involved in the running of a small private museum. The aim of this museum is to empower a community by delineating and appreciating the intangible and tangible heritage found in the area.
