Renee Danielle Baribeau (ThePracticalShaman.com) is a soul coach, writer, speaker, and workshop leader. A gifted mentor and shamanic healer, Renee injects wisdom, compassion, and humor into her dynamic and inspirational offerings. She’s known and respected for her down-to-earth approach. Renee is a graduate of the University of Southern Maine and the New York Restaurant School.
During her life, the wind gods have steered Renee’s course in many directions. A former chef, in 1987 she opened a successful restaurant, Brown Bagger’s, in Syracuse, New York. Her success prompted her to become sober and begin her spiritual journey. Eight years later, in 1995, she sold this restaurant and accepted a position at a corporate resort. After moving West for her new job, Renee pursued a calling to become a shaman, training with various teachers, among them Flordemayo, Jose Luis Herrera, Michael Harner, and Luz Clara. She also served at The Four Winds Society and, simultaneously, for ten years, in a local Lakota Sioux Lodge.
In 2005, Renee established Desert Holistic Network in Palm Desert, California, an online regional resource directory. From 2009 to 2011, Renee served as the Resident Shaman at We Care Spa in Desert Hot Springs, where she worked with many famous clients, including Los Angeles-based celebrities. Since 2014, Renee has worked for Foundations Recovery Network, a national system of residential treatment facilities. She is currently its Marketing and Community Outreach Coordinator for California.
As a writer, Renee is a featured contributing blogger for Elephant Journal (see her profile). Renee has also contributed chapters to the anthologies Pearls of Wisdom: 30 Inspirational Ideas to Live Your Best Life Now (Hierophant Publishing, 2012) and The Five Principles of Everything (Five Birds Publishing, 2012). In addition to Winds of the Spirit, she is currently working on two manuscripts: a memoir about cooking, getting sober, and her relationship with her gangster father; and a deeper, more comprehensive exploration of the WindWorkSM principles.
Although she makes her home on the West Coast, Renee travels to New York City, Palm Desert and Hollywood, CA. to provide her clients with shamanic healing and life/business coaching and mentoring.
