Update 8: Differentiated Learning Approach in Understanding the Holy Bible
The Holy Bible is the most printed book in the world which makes it the best-selling book of all times. The Bible is available in over 900 languages and more than 1,200 versions. Despite its popularity, people often struggle with reading the Bible and need help to understand it. Various versions of the Bible have been created to help make the content easier to understand. Some bibles have verse by verse notes, some are color coordinated according to title, and some simply utilize everyday modern language that is easier to understand in comparison to early modern English. In addition to the various publications, audio and video are available to help to interpret the content for users.
According to data collected in 2017, the preferred bible versions in the United States are the King James Version, the New International Version, and the English Standard Version. The verses are written differently in each bible. The following are excerpts of Matthew 22: 37-39 from each of the three bible versions.
The King James Version (KJV) is an example off early modern English written in 1611.
The New International Version (NIV) is an example of modern English written in 1978.
The English Standard Version (ESV) is an example of modern English written in 2001.
The Bible is also available with practical application exercises for the user as well as cultural identity content. Organizations such as UrbanMinistries.com provide a variety of curriculum materials to compliment the teachings of the Bible. UrbanMinistries.com connects black history information in order to relate the lesson to an African-American perspective. Something as traditional as the Holy Bible can benefit readers with a Differentiated Learning approach.
The following is a trailer of the movie Revival which brings a different perspective to the Gospel of John (length 1.15).
