  I graduated with a Ph.D. in Rhetoric and Professional Communication in 2011. My dissertation focused on issues of identity and knowledge negotiations through activities that foster self-reflection or self-assessment. I strongly believe that sound pedagogical and theory-driven self reflection activities can help students become more involved in their own learning but also in decision-making processes. I am currently teaching basic writing with a popular culture content in which I use social media to teach basic composition concepts and strategies. At present, I am interested in exploring how students think popular culture in general and social media in particular can help them negotiate between prior knowledge and newly acquired knowledge.
