Karen Exell is Lecturer in Museum Studies at UCL Qatar, where she coordinates the MA in Museum and Gallery Practice, a museum studies programme focussing on non-western approaches and regional dynamics. She has worked for over 15 years in museums, heritage organisations and universities, consults on developing projects in the GCC region, and is currently developing projects in India. Karen's research interests include museums in non-western contexts and future museum models, museums and the creation of knowledge in relation, and the impact of museums on cultural identity. Her most recent publication is the co-edited volume, Heritage Debates in the Arabian Peninsula: Debates, Discourses and Practices (Ashgate) and her forthcoming monograph focusses on museum development and the cultural landscape in the GCC (Routledge).
