...MoreDr. Jan-Ad Stemmet is a Senior Lecturer at the Department of History, University of the Free State, South Africa. He mainly focuses on contemporary history, specifically South African history of the twentieth century. For a number of years he has studied the issues of apartheid and the political violence that had beset South Africa during the turbulent 1980s. He also published a number of articles concerning the history of free speech and censorship during the apartheid-era. Currently, Dr. Stemmet, is researching the history of poverty in South Africa and the political ramifications thereof. Furthermore, he has a very keen interest in the history of the South African film industry and is working on a publication in that regard.
