Guida Man is an Assistant Professor at the School of Social Sciences, Atkinson Faculty of Liberal and Professional Studies, York University. Her areas of specialization include race and ethnicity, immigration and transnational migration, families, women and work, qualitative methods, social change and social inequality. She has been doing research with Chinese immigrant women in Canada for the last fifteen years. Her research has always been concerned with Chinese immigrant women who are highly educated and skilled. She was amongst the first scholars to inquire into middle-class women’s experiences, when most studies focused on working-class women. Her more recent research examines transnational migration, particularly as it intersects with gender, race, and class relations in the context of globalization and economic restructuring. Based on her research analysis, she has published in a number of refereed journals, monographic series, books and conference proceedings. Most recently, her paper “Gender, Work and Migration: Deskilling Chinese Immigrant Women in Canada” was published in Women’s Studies International Forum, Vol. 27, Issue 2, June-July, pp. 135-148, 2004, and another paper “Chinese Immigrant Women in Canada: Examining Local and Transnational Networks” was published in Chinese Women and their Network Capital, London: Marshall Cavendish International, pp. 44-69. 2004.
