David Graves is one of Israel's leading philosophers of art. Born in the USA, raised in Tel Aviv, Graves comes from an artistic family. His father was an opera singer and mother a ballet dancer. Graves himself is a professional bassist, and serious amateur painter (2 solo exhibitions). He teaches philosophy and aesthetics at the Academic College of Tel Aviv-Yafo. Graves received his Ph.D. from Tel Aviv University, working on the New Institutional Theory of Art, published here for the first time. He was supervised by Israel Prize Laureate Asa Kasher of TAU, and the inventor of the Institutional Theory of Art, George Dickie of UI Chicago. He has two sons and is a widower.
