Dr Courneya’s background is in Cardiovascular Physiology. From 1990-97 she ran a Heart and Stroke Foundation and MRC funded laboratory investigating control mechanisms involved in the regulation of arterial pressure in normotensive and hypertensive animals. She teaches cardiovascular physiology to undergraduate science and medical/dental students at the University of British Columbia. In addition she is the director of the 5 week Cardiovascular Block for first year medical/dental students. Her research now is in the area of medical education with specific interests in medical student admission and faculty development. She is involved in international education endeavours and has ongoing projects in Nepal, Vietnam and Chile. Her research interests include: Cardiovascular Medical Education; International Medical Education; Arts and Humanities in Medicine.
