Emily in Paris is a recent series available on Netflix where is having a huge success, especially in the USA. We are tired to know that there are a lot of series, movies, and shows from the USA that represents other countries putting the highest levels of stereotypes, and obviously with Emily in Paris wouldn’t be different.

The series tells the story of Emily, a north american girl who lives in Chicago (USA) and has the sudden opportunity to live in Paris for a year to work there, being a USA representative, she gets excited but she doesn’t know how to speak french. So the sense of superiority of the USA is shown in season 1 already, because the main character, Emily, doesn’t care and is not worried about learning french, since the people she is gonna work with, speak in English. This was one of the things more criticized about the show, even though the whole story happens in Paris, the French language is almost never used.

In season 2, they tried to make it up these mistakes and Emily is trying to learn french and the language is being more used. But besides that, french people are not that happy with the series because the show comes with the image that Paris is dirty, people are boring and they only care about themselves. Also in the series, we can see how the USA always tries to impose their culture in other countries, and this kinda irritates, obviously.

But even with so much criticism, the show has a lot of fans and probably we’re gonna have season 3, I think the topics explored in the script are very superficial, but if you look deeply you can find important topics (wrongs or rights) that we should talk about it.
