Multimodal Literacies MOOC’s Updates
Multimodal Literacies Peer-graded Assignment 1
Today's word has new ways of communication. We use our phones, tablets instead of pen and paper. We rarely write a letter but email every day. So we need to change our teaching methods according to adapt ourselves to the new era.
In Turkey, we have interactive boards in our classes. We don't write with chalk on the board. We use apps, interactive software programs while telling lessons. It gives us an opportunity to use powerpoint slides, interractive games, videos, songs while giving lectures. Students also create games, videos about the subjects that they have learned. They can use their different communication skills while doing their project works. They are aware of 21st century skills and media literacy. Cause they are exposed to social media every day. They use their mobile phone and tablets even doing their homework. These days they are taking lessons via zoom, google meet, skype cause their schools are closed because of covid 19.
In sum, we have to develop our communication skills every single day. We don't know what will happen in a year or so on. We need to develop our ICT skills, teaching and learning skills as well. I try to use different methods of teaching. Rap songs, games, cartoons, storytelling. Also, I use digital media in order to take their attention. I can say that Multimodal literacy is everywhere in our class while teaching and learning process.
Hey there, Selin. Your reality is very different from mine, here in Brazil. Only private schools can count with such rich tech settings as the ones you've described. I really liked what you said about the different teaching styles you try to use. Could you give us an example? I'd ask for one of the rap songs, that sounds very appealing! Also, how would you compare this practice with traditional notions of literacy? Thank you so much for sharing!
