Learning, Knowledge and Human Development MOOC’s Updates
Social and Emotional Conditions
You might be wondering why amidst all theories and neurological findings among human being, there are still different methods and paces of learning. This could probably be rooted on the impact of emotional and social well-being/conditions of individuals.
Stress, Anxiety, and Depression
Emotional well-being of people as well as their mental health greatly affects the learning of individuals. Say for example, people who are experiencing severe anxiety attacks have difficulty to focus, absent-minded at times, with poor to no concentration, and find it hard to retain learning. It is important to note that many students nowadays are susceptible to anxiety and worse, depression. All of these result to weak cognitive function among students/individuals.
Relationships and Socialization
Probably due to digital era, making friends and building relationships are quite difficult tasks for some people. It is easy to communicate through social media platforms instead of actual face to face relationships. Also, there are people who are introverts and find it uncomfortable having social interactions. This makes studying and relating knowledge with other people deem impossible.
Family and Cultural Background
All people have different families and cultural backgrounds which mean they have varied values and ethics. Their upbringings have significant effect to their learning. If a family is academically inclined and is very supportive on their pursuit to excellence and higher education, they will be more motivated to excel. On the other hand, if the community and the family of a person is not supportive and do not value education, a person is most likely to be uninterested in studying. This poses a struggle in learning.
