Negotiating Learner Differences MOOC’s Updates

Social and Educational Benefits of Diversity

I am Asad Arslan Asif, a student of literature, from Riphah International University. Lines ahead put light on social and educational benefits of diversity.

Enrichment of Educational Experience:

Students have the chance to learn from people with different backgrounds and upbringings through culturally diverse classroom and social interactions, increasing innovation and collaboration. "Research demonstrates that the overall academic and social impacts of more racial diversity on campus are likely to be good, ranging from higher levels of academic achievement to the enhancement of near- and long-term intergroup relations," the Center for American Progress writes. More varied than ever, college students bring a wide range of experiences, viewpoints, backgrounds, and beliefs to campus. Diversity officers and student affairs professionals must take decisive action toward inclusive excellence in order to adapt to shifting populations.

Improvement in Mind Exertion Capabilities:

Students have everyday opportunity to interact with people from different backgrounds thanks to a varied campus, which helps them learn to speak more effectively and frequently in novel ways.

Overcoming the Stereotypes:

Students frequently grow up surrounded by people who share their financial, racial, or cultural backgrounds. The institution will confront preset assumptions or conventions that may have emerged during adolescence for many students, regardless of whether they identify as a member of a minority or a culturally diverse community. Students can develop into more accepting, tolerant, and considerate members of society when given the chance to critically examine these experiences.

Development of Leadership Qualities:

Students gain from diversity on campus in a variety of ways, not only by having culturally different friends. They have the opportunity to observe and engage with a variety of leadership philosophies used by academics, employees, administrators, and members of the community. It gives many students a chance to see someone from a like background who they can want to be like. Students from historically underrepresented communities are particularly affected by this. It is crucial to make sure that the demographics of representation are compatible with our student body—both our existing students and those we intend to enroll—when evaluating those we employ within our campus communities.

Developing Global Responsibilities:

According to the American Council on Education, “Education within a diverse setting prepares students to become good citizens in an increasingly complex, pluralistic society; it fosters mutual respect and teamwork, and it helps build communities whose members are judged by the quality of their character and their contributions.”
