Navigating the Challenges and Opportunities of 6G Networks: A Pathway to Sustainable Smart Cities and the Achievement of Sustainable Development Goals

Abstract

The transition from 5G to 6G networks presents both significant opportunities and critical challenges for the development of sustainable smart cities. This paper examines the emerging trends in 6G technology, including holographic communications and wearable networks, and their potential to address the evolving needs of urban environments. We analyze the limitations of current spectral efficiency and explore innovative spectrum utilization techniques for terahertz (THz) bands. Furthermore, we consider the cybersecurity and privacy concerns associated with 6G deployment, and propose frameworks for ensuring data protection. This research provides a forward-looking perspective on the future of 6G in smart cities, highlighting the key challenges and opportunities for achieving Sustainable Development Goals.
