Media Discourse Analysis of Vegetarianism and Examination of Its Economic and Cultural Impacts in the Last Two Decades in Five Developed Countries: A Case Study of Five Countries - the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, and France

Abstract

In the past two decades, one of the most significant movements emerging in the media landscape has been the promotional trends of vegetarianism and its various branches. Although vegetarianism has historical and ritual roots in many countries and civilizations, such as India and China, it is considered a relatively recent concept in some developed countries and has had considerable impacts on cultural and economic spheres. Its cultural effects include the heightened focus on environmental issues and the increased prominence of animal rights. Economically, this movement has had noticeable effects on the livestock and agriculture industries in these countries. In this study, five countries—USA, Canada, France, the United Kingdom, and the Netherlands—are examined, and the impacts of media trends in vegetarianism and its various branches on the economic and cultural aspects of these countries are analyzed.
