Abstract
Sport is one of the most popular social activities in the world and a thriving industry economically. The sport sector intersects with economic, political, and social issues, necessitating sustainability as a major concern for sport organizations. In addressing major issues like environmental protection, social connections, and corporate social responsibility, sport can be seen as both an exemplary model and a cautionary tale. This study has two complementary objectives. First, it provides an overview of sustainability-in-sport research over the last 20 years, highlighting its emergence as a significant topic in the past decade through a systematic review of existing academic research. Second, it examines how the sport industry currently addresses various sustainability-related issues, drawing on insights from industry panel interviews to offer future perspectives.
