Abstract
African traditional rulers are perceived to be syncretic because of the nature of the traditional stool of Obaship they occupied. Generally, in Africa, Obaship institution is a traditional institution which domicile in the belief of cosmological essence that resonate in ancestors worship. This implies that traditional rulers in Africa worldview often occupy the position of Obaship due to ancestral heritage and bloodline. This made traditional rulers to be allegedly avowed to their ancestors. However, the advent of Christianity and it’s spirituality have changed the narrative in the recent time. Many of African traditional rulers claims to be a born-again Christians and seriously devoted to Christian spirituality. This paper interrogates the impacts and contributions of Yoruba traditional rulers to the growth and development of Christianity in Yorubaland in southwestern Nigeria.
