Abstract
Yoruba people depict a religious community with social and political values. They possessed a veritable art profession of drumming that influence their model of socialization. At the center of this art are the professional drummers with cult identity of Ayan. This cult has a display ordering of rite of passages that are frequently unknown to the non-initiates and which underline the preference of their social identity. The study therefore brings narratives of this ritual rite as it connects to rite birth, puberty, middle stage and death among the group. The study highlights the role of ritual in the profession of drumming in selected town of Yoruba land. The study shows that experience and expression of ritual ordering among Yoruba drummers are deeply intertwined with the religious, social, and cultural fabric of Yoruba society as the drummers play a critical role in the connection between the human and spiritual realms. The paper uses in-depth interviews, participant observation, archival materials and ethnographic methods to generate data needed for its analysis. Phenomenological exploration is used to process of the data.
