Abstract
This paper investigates the application and impact of Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools, specifically automated writing evaluation (AWE) programs and chatbots, in enhancing language learning for diverse student populations through detailed case study analyses. Contrary to initial assumptions, AI tools like AWE systems and chatbots can significantly enrich humanistic education for EFL and ESL students. These tools deliver personalized and immediate feedback tailored to individual learner needs, fostering confidence and autonomy in writing skills. Such practices align with humanistic principles, promoting self-directed learning and personal growth. Additionally, chatbots provide a low-pressure environment for practicing conversational skills, thereby reducing anxiety and promoting active learner engagement. The paper presents findings from three distinct case studies where AI programs were integrated into English as a foreign or second language classrooms. Two studies focus on the use of AWE programs for editing and feedback, while the third examines chatbots for language practice. The analysis highlights the positive instructional impacts of these AI technologies and explores challenges encountered by educators, offering recommendations for future implementation and research directions.
