Abstract
Identity-based inequalities are a leading factor in the cause of conflict, especially when they are based on the exclusion of some groups from political life and decision-making to the benefit of others. Identities are political, social and cultural constructs that are shaped and reshaped through dynamic processes of interaction between state and society over the distribution of power and resources and our human need for power and status often causes us to follow ideologies that promise inclusion, power, privilege. When political bias is present yet excluded from the consideration of bias impact in the workplace, it can significantly affect authenticity, which refers to the degree of alignment between one’s internal beliefs and values and their external expressions and behaviors. This often manifests in a variety of ways that can impact morale, engagement, mental health, innovation, collaboration, and productivity in the workplace. In this session, we explore several strategies to mitigate the impact of political bias on workplace authenticity. Attendees will leave the discussion with: 1. Actionable strategies to prevent political bias from derailing workplace authenticity. 2. A renewed enthusiasm for the importance of promoting a culture of inclusivity, respect, and open dialogue. 3. A business case for implementing policies and practices that encourage diversity of thought, where all voices are heard and valued. 4. A new perspective on the importance of conflict resolution and bias awareness education. 5. A clear call to action on the importance of leadership role modeling authentic behavior and fostering a culture of trust.
